    Hello,

    GRE is not required by most of the universities in Germany for an international applicant to be considered for a Masters or a PhD. Your academic background is given consideration.

    To be admitted to a degree program, an application had to be sent either to the university of your choice or to uni-assist. The following check-list shows you which papers and documents you generally have to enclose with your application. Please note that other or additional papers may also be required, depending on the university and degree program. Incomplete papers can also be a cause of rejection.

    • Application Form for Admission to Studies: As a rule, you can obtain the application forms from the university of your choice (via the International Office).
    • An officially or publicly authenticated photocopy* of all your educational records, certificates confirming any university entrance exams passed abroad, university certificates or degrees gained plus the relevant list(s) of individual grades per academic semester or academic year, plus the relevant list(s) of individual grades scored (e.g. a transcript of records).
    • Proof of German language proficiency (for example, a TestDaF or DSH certificate)
    • Passport photo (format: 4 × 5 cm maximum)
    • Copy of your passport (page with name details and photo)
    • Proof of any subject-related vocational training or any aptitude tests passed (required for applications for a study place in admissions restricted subjects or in subjects with an aptitude assessment test, such as sport, art or music).
    However, the most common way of opting scholarship in Germany is via the DAAD.

    The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the academic exchange and support organization of the institutions of higher education in Germany. The DAAD has the function of promoting international academic relations especially through the exchange of students and teaching staff. It awards scholarships to foreign and German students, young academic and scholars.

    The other benefits of the DAAD are stated below

    • One-year scholarships which can be extended to fund a PhD program in Germany, but which can also be used for shorter MA or MSc programs;
    • Graduate courses for students from developing countries;
    • Practical traineeships for students of science, engineering and agriculture;
    • Study visits for groups of foreign students;
    • Group seminars in Germany
    • Scholarships for language courses in Germany for students who already have some German.

    For your reference and more information about these scholarships, as well as support offered by other organisations such as AIESEC, Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation, or Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, find below the required details :

    Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst
    Kennedyallee 50
    D-53175 Bonn
    Germany
    Tel: (49 228) 882-0
    Fax: (
    49 228) 882-444
    Email: Postmaster@daad.de

    Good luck!

    Hello,

    Generally the German universities consider the following aspects and as a candidate you would need to submit the documents, meet eligibility criteria accordingly:

    Application Form for Admission to Studies: As a rule, you can obtain the application forms from the university of your choice (via the International Office). To be admitted to a degree program, an application had to be sent either to the university of your choice or to uni-assist.

    Bachelors Degree: A valid three/four years Bachelors degree in a government recognized university in the home country.

    Transcripts / Academic records :An officially or publicly authenticated photocopy of all your educational records, certificates confirming any university entrance exams passed abroad, university certificates or degrees gained plus the relevant list(s) of individual grades per academic semester or academic year, plus the relevant list(s) of individual grades scored (e.g. a transcript of records).

    English Language Proficiency: As a part of Language requirement, 99% of the universities take TOEFL/IELTS score as reference. A small number of universities, in special cases also ask for GRE scores. This is however dependent on the university. The minimum acceptable TOEFL iBT score varies from 71 to 81. There is no such thing as a GRE cutoff marks

    German Language Proficiency: Though optional, possessing some German language skills before going to Germany is always an advantage. Certain universities who conduct partly German taught/ partly English taught courses, can ask for a minimum of A2/B1 level completion in a recognized institute.

    Letters of Recommendation: Usually one requires three recommendation letters to apply to any German institute.

    Statement of Purpose / Letter of Motivation: A Statement of Purpose should describe clearly the motivation behind the application, clear reasoning on why the applicant aspires to obtain his degree from that particular university. It should also include goals and expectations of the aspirant to pursue his/her degree in the respective universities. Some universities demand for a ‘hand written’ SOP.

    Curriculum Vitae (CV): This should include the personal details of the applicant, his educational qualification & background, contact information, projects

    Passport photo (format: 4 × 5 cm maximum)

    Copy of your passport (page with name details and photo)

    Financial documents : Despite the option of DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), some universities may require financial documents. They are required during the visa processing as well.

    Please note the requirements are university specific and may vary accordingly.

    You may consider the following universities that offer the program of your choice :

    Munchen Technical University
    Augsburg University
    Giessen University
    Clausthal Technical University
    Osnabrück University

    Good luck!

    Hello Nivas,

    If you are aiming for the German Universities, you need to consider the following :

    Bachelors Degree: A valid three/four years Bachelors degree in a government recognized university in the home country. While a four year Bachelors is preferred, some universities also accept the three years Indian Bachelors degree.

    Standardized Test (GRE):

    Admission to programmes in Germany are granted on the basis of previous academic record. However, for some engineering programmes require a GRE score.

    English Language Proficiency: As a part of Language requirement, 99% of the universities take TOEFL / IELTS score as reference. A small number of universities, in special cases also ask for GRE scores. This is however dependent on the university. The minimum acceptable TOEFL iBT score varies from 71 to 81.

    German Language Proficiency: Though optional, possessing some German language skills before going to Germany is always an advantage. Certain universities who conduct partly German taught/ partly English taught courses, can ask for a minimum of A2/B1 level completion in a recognized institute.

    While the above stated should guide you with eligibility criteria and admission requirements while considering the German universities, the application procedure would require more documents like the transcripts, reference letter, statement of purpose, resume` etc.

    I hope the above stated helps!

    Take care!
