    Hello Sanket,

When it comes to German universities, you must understand that they consider the academic background and the performance pretty effectively and this often becomes a cause of rejection.

As an international applicant, though you might have to suffice with the GRE scores, it is not a mandatory requirement by all the universities and is many a times recommended by the universities. However, the requirement for the English Proficiency Test (TOEFL / IELTS) has geared up and is hence recommended that you consider the test.

The German universities consider the following aspects and as a candidate you would need to submit the documents, meet eligibility criteria accordingly:

Application Form for Admission to Studies: As a rule, you can obtain the application forms from the university of your choice (via the International Office). To be admitted to a degree program, an application had to be sent either to the university of your choice or to uni-assist.

Bachelors Degree: A valid three/four years Bachelors degree in a government recognized university in the home country.

Transcripts / Academic records :An officially or publicly authenticated photocopy of all your educational records, certificates confirming any university entrance exams passed abroad, university certificates or degrees gained plus the relevant list(s) of individual grades per academic semester or academic year, plus the relevant list(s) of individual grades scored (e.g. a transcript of records). You may also need to suffice with the proof of any subject-related vocational training or any aptitude tests passed (required for applications for a study place in admissions restricted subjects or in subjects with an aptitude assessment test, such as sport, art or music).

English Language Proficiency: As a part of Language requirement, 99% of the universities take TOEFL/IELTS score as reference. A small number of universities, in special cases also ask for GRE scores. This is however dependent on the university. The minimum acceptable TOEFL iBT score varies from 71 to 81. There is no such thing as a GRE cutoff marks

German Language Proficiency: Though optional, possessing some German language skills before going to Germany is always an advantage. Certain universities who conduct partly German taught/ partly English taught courses, can ask for a minimum of A2/B1 level completion in a recognized institute.

Letters of Recommendation: Usually one requires three recommendation letters to apply to any German institute.

Statement of Purpose / Letter of Motivation: A Statement of Purpose should describe clearly the motivation behind the application, clear reasoning on why the applicant aspires to obtain his degree from that particular university. It should also include goals and expectations of the aspirant to pursue his/her degree in the respective universities. Some universities demand for a ‘hand written’ SOP.

Curriculum Vitae (CV): This should include the personal details of the applicant, his educational qualification & background, contact information, projects

Passport photo (format: 4 × 5 cm maximum)

Copy of your passport (page with name details and photo)

Financial documents : Despite the option of DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), some universities may require financial documents. They are required during the visa processing as well.

Please note the requirements are university specific and may vary accordingly. As of now you may consider the following universities that might suit your interest :

    • Berlin TU
    • Munchen TU
    • Kiel University

Do get back to us in case of any query.

    Take care!

    Hello Sharath,

Yes, Berlin TU offers the referred program in German. However, the university has been specified since priority with regard to the mode of instructions has not specified, the university has been a part of the list.

Also, though many German universities do offer English mode of education, majority of the universities will need the proof of language skills on level B1. That equals about 600 hours of German language. Also, for the entire student life it is easier to know a little bit of German.

Again Munchen TU is a dream university, yet it has been specified for the fact that every short list is generally a mixed bag of dream, reach and safe universities. Again there are not many options specifically for a Masters in Telecommunications. In fact if one is open for varying related concentrations like Digital Communications, study of communications systems and engineering with an emphasis in Information Technology, Computers, Electrical Engineering etc. can bring more universities in the list.

Now with regard to the academic percentage, it is a fact that the German universities emphasize strongly on the academic record. However, this is a strong standing by not just TU Munchen but by the majority of the German universities. Again, it would not be fair to state that the universities blindly go by the earned percentage. Many a times a profile with much decent academic records is rejected in lieu of the fact that the academic background does not align with the sought academic background for the sought program. In fact, TU Berlin is also one of the known engineering universities in Germany.

The list with respect to the priorities is often narrowed down and it is hence as counselors we often suggest to have an open mind to accept variations with the core specializations and sometimes the location as well.

Do get back, in case of further queries.

    Take care!
